MPs from across the country are calling on the Government to relocate Government Departments to the Regions.
John Spellar MP said: “With the rapid development of office space in Birmingham Central Business District and the quick links to London, Birmingham is ideally places for the location of government office functions and other public bodies.
“The benefits would also extend to the wider conurbation as well as being in the interests of the overheated South East.”
Early Day Motion 10: Relocation of Government Departments
That this House believes that the economic playing field is weighted heavily in favour of London and the South East; further believes that relocating government departments around the UK would start to address this imbalance; notes that doing so would bring jobs to areas that sorely need them and provide the Government with a more rounded perspective when creating policies; and calls on the Government to relocate departments to Bristol, Sheffield, Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham, Newcastle, Leeds and Liverpool.
