Today local MP, John Spellar, attended a meeting of leading industry figures in Parliament to discuss the importance of the UK Construction Industry to the local economy and how it can provide more jobs.
Commenting on the discussion, John Spellar said:
“We must provide people in Warley with the training and support they need to have long and fulfilling careers in the Construction Industry. This is vital to addressing the skills shortages we face locally and nationally, and to creating well paid professional jobs that will boost the economy.”
The discussion was sponsored by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the world’s largest and most influential professional body for construction management.
Chris Blythe, Chief Executive of the CIOB said:
“The Construction Industry needs around 180,000 new recruits in the next three years to meet the demand for skills. We believe we can meet this gap in three main ways; retaining older workers, recruiting construction workers from abroad and most importantly, training and developing young people so they can have long and successful careers in construction. We will continue to work with government to make this happen and we are delighted to discuss this important issue with John Spellar MP today.”
