Former Defence Minister John Spellar today voiced his opposition to the Government’s decision to use Chinese Government company Huawei in the UK’s 5G network.

In a debate on the matter led by Sir Iain Duncan Smith, Spellar said that ‘it is quite clear in this room that there is bipartisan support for his position. As indeed in the US with the Republicans and Democrats, as indeed in Australia with the Australian Liberal government and the Australian Labor Party.’

Spellar also queried why the Government were claiming that ‘somehow Huawei are light-years ahead of other companies,’ when in fact ‘They are probably a few months ahead in the nature of this industry’.
