Black Country MP John Spellar welcomed the swearing in of new US President Joe Biden.
Spellar, who serves as Treasurer of the British-American Parliamentary Friendship Group, said that the departure of President Trump would ‘take a great amount of poison’ out of US politics.
The positive impact of the Biden Presidency was already being felt, as Spellar described him as having ‘hit the ground running’, signing many executive orders and that ‘America would be back in its rightful place as leaders of the free world.’
Spellar also welcomed that President Biden had said proudly he was a ‘union man’, his recognition that unions built America, and his appointment of a trade union leader as Labor Secretary. Spellar declared that ‘there is a new Sheriff in town’. He said this showed that the priorities of the US had changed and that the British Government and Tory Right had better change accordingly.
