A call by David Cameron for greater flexibility on employee’s criminal records has received a warm welcome from Labour MP John Spellar.
John Spellar MP said:
“For a long time I have been campaigning against the automatic production of criminal records. Very often this means that offences and stupidies committed when people are young and foolish blights their careers. Not only is this particularly unfair on them it’s enormously economically inefficient for the country.
“I am writing to the Prime Minister to ask him to look fully at this and break through the Conservative mind-set of the Home Office bureaucrats so that we can properly protect people against those who could commit harm, but enable thousands of others to properly provide for themselves and their families.
“This whole nonsense was highlighted during Police Commissioner elections round the country when many absolutely respectable and responsible candidates were ruled out because of offences committed in their teens.”
