Black Country MP John Spellar today called on the Prime Minister to commit to buying British.
At Prime Minister’s Questions, Mr Spellar said: “As we enter the world of Article 50, can the Prime Minister say what she is doing to ensure national and local Government prioritises buying British goods and services? Although I have to say her record as Home Secretary on Police vehicles doesn’t give us much cause for optimism.”
He later added: “If we are to make a success of Brexit, British manufacturing and jobs need to be treated as a top priority. An important first step will be for the Government to prioritise buying British. Workers across the country, and especially in the West Midlands, want to know whether the Government will improve its frankly woeful record of supporting British industry and jobs.”
“It was the most disappointing reply from the Prime Minister, which shows that she does not have a clue about the scale of the issue. I will continue to battle for British industry and British jobs.”
